My Favourite New Zealand Gins From 2022

My Favourite New Zealand Gins From 2022

As we embark on a new year, here's a small summary of some of my favourite NZ Gins from 2022!

Roots Marlborough Dry Gin
A modern dry style gin, batch distilled in the centre of New Zealand wine country. A solid juniper backbone with plenty of citrus and native kawakawa creating a unique yet refreshing gin and tonic.

1919 Pink Gin
Inspired by pink gin of old, i.e. gin and bitters, flourishing red berries flavours with balanced spice and soft juniper. Bold yet brilliant.

Elsewhere Gin - Hahei
Very much a contemporary gin, it features freshly foraged botanicals from Hahei. Soft and complex yet extraordinarily well balanced. Highlights of lime leaf, native resin, and gentle spice.

Hastings Distillers East Block 200 Gin
Inspired by a classic London Dry with a contemporary twist. Eight of the 10 botanicals in this gin are locally sourced and grown. Waxy green leaves leads, bolstered by citrus peel and soft juniper throughout. Big winner.

Awildian Coromandel Dry Gin
Featuring 20 botanicals, this number is certainly complex. Soft florals and earthy tones lead with a very well-integrated juniper backbone. Certainly deserved to win best Classic Gin at the 2022 World Gin Awards in my eyes.
