Based at the historic Château de Bonbonnet, founded in 1702, in the Cognac region of Southwest France, Maison Ferrand led the charge in changing the area from one that was only famous for its brandy to one that is now famous for all its spirits. Winning award after award for their delicious gins, they have become one of the faces of French gin with global recognition and acclaim.

Regional production laws restrict the distillation of cognac to the November-March period, leaving their copper stills and skilled workforce lying fallow for some six months of the year. Lobbying the governing, Maison Ferrand’s owner, Alexandre Gabriel, was able to convince them to let him use his stills to produce gin during these off months, inspired by the locally growing juniper trees, and many others have since followed.

Founded on deep research into the history of French gin production, Citadelle Gin takes its name and inspiration from the Dunkirk Citadelle, a fort which protected one of Europe’s important spice trading ports and was home to an 18th century royal distillery that made genièvre for the English market.
